New Orleans 2006 / the Old Absinthe House

One of the oldest bars in New Orleans, Jean Lafitte's Absinthe House had nothing to do with the Pirate, other than to be the location of a legendary meeting between himself and Andrew Jackson, as they allegedly plotted to win the Battle of New Orleans.

The marble fountain in the forefront is one of the original Absinthe fountains. It dripped cold water over the sugar cubes as the bartender mixed the Green Faerie for customers such as Mark Twain and P.T. Barnum.
