Key West State of Mind / keywest44

Hemingway's house. The single largest privately own plot of land in Key West, Hemingway bought it for $7,000 in 1933. Shortly after, when Hemingway was in Europe during the war, his wife built a swimming pool in the backyard at a cost of $20,000. The story goes that when he returned he sees the pool and tells her that he didn't remember that being there when he left. When he heard the cost, he took the last penny he had in his pocket, threw it at her and stormed off to Sloppy Joe's. He told her since she was spending his money so recklessly she might as well take the last cent he had to his name. She took the penny and stuck it into the still wet cement around the pool, where it is today.
