Modern Mosaics - Design Concepts

A service that we provide our potential customers during the RFP process are small-scale design mockups.

millville housing authority mural These mockups allow you to see:

  • The color and variations inherent in the glass tile
  • The color and texture of the grout material
  • The various shapes of the cut tiles
  • Options for the final design concept

We will use the same materials we propose to use on the project, and for very large installations we will cut the tile pretty close to scale. This allows the client to get a pretty good idea of what the finished mural will look like.

Due to the variation of colors inherent in stained glass, and the complexity of our designs, it is impossible to do an artists rendering that comes close to representing the completed installation. These small examples, however, when coupled with our watercolor or colored pencil sketches allow for a better grasp of the finished product.

As you can see from the samples shown, we are able to adapt to any color-scheme.

The shapes and sizes of the individual tiles also impact the overall design. The visual impact can range from the sedate and orderly geometric patterns to more exciting random patterns.

When creating a design, we visit the site whenever possible. Our designs are intended to compliment the surroundings, to become a part of the architecture rather than an addition to. Rather than 'mosaic mural' we refer to our product as an 'architectural installation'. We work very closely with your designers and architects in order to create a seamless element that enhances rather than distracts.

The size of the tiles, the color of the glass, the amount of ceramic, porcelain, mirror or other elements all work together to instill an unique feel to the final product. There are even a number of colors of grout to choose from. We generally recommend a natural, standard grout color - especially for exterior installations. The weather will naturally bleach or change the color of the grout over time. If a repair is ever required, the patch will be more likely to stand out if a non-standard grout is used. A standard sand-colored or gray grout will be less likely to have major variations from lot to lot. And it is next-to-impossible to match custom colors after the fact.

We generally guarantee the workmanship of our installations for ten years. If materials fail for reasons other than neglect, abuse, or 'acts of god' we will gladly repair the affected areas. If the final product is injured due to other reasons beyond our control, we will of course be happy to supply you with an estimate for repairs based on our most current price schedule.
